The Mythological Acne Blemish Cure-All

No one is immune to the occasional acne blemish. Acne is an unpleasant fact, but the way you treat the blemish when it occurs will make a big difference in how long the blemish is apparent. You may not be able to prevent acne blemish issues completely, but you can take some steps to hurry the blemish on its way to clear skin.

Skn Care

If you develop an acne blemish or have a breakout, you should continue to practice good skin care habits. If you are not sure what constitutes good skin care habits, there are numerous articles on the subject, but the main idea is to keep your skin clean without irritating it. Proper skin care can help prevent acne breakouts, but the occasional pimple is unavoidable.

When you spot an acne blemish, popping it should not be your first option. Popping a pimple at first sight, hopeful for eradicating it before anyone else can see it, usually makes the situation worse. If a pimple has formed a head, though, then it should be popped so that it can heal. However, squeezing acne before it is ready is bad for your skin and is a poor way to treat acne. When it will not pop, most people continue picking and pinching, which bursts the capillaries (tiny blood vessels) right beneath the skin's surface. This essentially forms a little bruise on your face that is likely to be very visible even after the pimple itself has healed.

Dealing with a Pimple

Once you get an acne blemish, you do still have a few ways to treat acne, but some of them are costly. One new product, called the Zeno acne-clearing device, claims it can eradicate most pimples within twenty four hours. It works by focusing a specific amount of heat on the pimple, which destroys the bacteria causing the blemish. Some people claim that it works perfectly for them, while others say it has virtually no effect on their acne. Luckily, the company offers a money-back guarantee if you are not satisfied. The only drawback for people who find Zeno effective is that it requires disposable tips to work, which some people claim are somewhat pricey depending on how many pimples there are to treat.

Another product used to treat existing pimples is a pen that uses various frequencies of concentrated light. It has been known for a long time that exposure to sunlight helps your skin fight acne, but scientists have determined that the two specific frequency ranges that are most effective appear to us in the form of blue and red light. The blue light works to kill the bacterium that causes acne, while the red light stimulates the healing action of your skin. Dermatologists have used red and blue light treatment for quite sometime, but the light pens that are currently available are completely portable and do not require any replacement tips. However, like Zeno, some people report amazing results from using a light pen while others see absolutely no results at all.

Many methods exist to treat acne, and the results will vary from person to person. While Zeno or light pens might work for one person, another might have no success at all. There is the option of spending money on gadgets and potions, but in the end, sometimes it is best to allow the acne blemish to run its course. The less irritation the blemish receives, the better. It might disappear faster if you do nothing at all but continue your regular skin care routine.

What are some of the other factors that increase the likelihood of getting acne?

That is a good question, and one that is probably on everyone's mind. The tough part about acne is that there is not one single thing that can cause it. Several factors help cause acne. Some of them can be avoided, while others cannot. For example, one cannot change family history, but this is one very important factor in determining the development of some form of acne.

Hormonal activity is another. Women who are pregnant or who are menstruating have been known to suddenly develop bad cases of acne. Other factors, such as stress and certain medications, can also bring about acne. Remember: acne is based on the hormonal changes that take place within the body. Any life-changing or stress-inducing event is likely to alter a person's chemical makeup. Finally, the accumulation of dead skin cells often contributes to increased acne.

Creams, reds & browns - or red, white and blue?

What a dilemma! I have four beautiful black and white photographs of my four children. I am framing them as a gift for my husband in white frames. I have quite a bit of space around the photo and was thinking of using colored paper (probably scrapbook type papers) to accentuate the photos - should I go with a very modern cream / brown and deep red I found - or should I be classic and go for crisp red, white & blue... I just can't decide...

Our walls are a simple white. We have beautiful wooden floors and all natural colored carpets / tiles. Our furnishings are mostly blues and wood.

for me, I like reds and blues together so I would go for the Red, White and Blue motif. Red white and blue are classic colors and would never go out of style and they would be cheerier than the cream, brown and deep red. With the Red, White and Blue, your pictures will "pop" out and be seen rathe than blend in completely and not be noticed. Good Luck!

In Time for the Holidays, One Toy Store Nixes Pink and Blue (Ms. Magazine)

With the holidays fast approaching, many folks will find themselves standing
in the aisles of a toy store faced with one big question: boy or girl? The
majority of big-box toy stores-and even many local ones-tend to organize their
aisles based on gender. Eye-searing pink pervades the girls’ section, which is
packed with dolls, princess [...]
