Are You Monitoring Your Exercise Progress?
The only way to figure out whether you are changing or improving on something is by monitoring your progress.That applies to fitness the same as it applies to boiling water, you need to monitor your progress so you can see when you are pushing too hard or when you are not pushing hard enough.Monitoring also gives you added motivation, for instance if you know you did a 5 mile run yesterday yet you don't feel like you can complete that today, you will probably push on anyway just so you can reach your goal.
While there are many ways to check the level of the fitness program like taking the readings of lung capacity and monitoring the resting heart rate, one of the simplest and most effective way to monitor the program is to figure out how hard you are pushing your body for the exercise.That could mean you measure how much weight you lift during an exercise, or how far you run, how fast you run, how many breaks you take etc.Monitor as much as you can and then aim to improve just slightly every single time, then you'll know you are making progress.
Monitoring is relatively simpler at the gym, because all the exercising machines will have measuring methods, which will accurately give you information like the distance you covered, the speed of your exercising and sometimes even the calories you burnt.However, you can do monitoring of your pulse and exercising even outside by wearing a pedometer to track the distance and a a strapless heart rate monitor watch to monitor the time you take and your heart rate, thus giving you complete information.You can even consider getting the high-tech Nike sensors, which can attach to your shoes and provide information about your distance, time and calories burnt to iPod device.
Look at the statistics of your normal workouts to figure out the areas which you can target for improving your workout.You could consider actions like improving your run speed by 5 seconds or by increasing the run duration on the treadmill by 5 seconds to increase the distance of the sprint.Your first impulse will be to try and add a minute to your run, or knock a minute off the time it took to run a distance, which is fine, but then what do you do the next time?You need to make very small improvements each time and they will lead to big improvements over time.
While a 5 second improvement may seem miniscule, over a period of 10 sessions, it will improve to an impressive 50 second improvement.Or a good thing to aim for is distance, if you are outside try to run to the next lamppost each time and that will soon add up, or in the gym add on another 25m to your run, and soon you'll be running further than you ever thought you could.
Problem with my heart?
So I'm about 6 foot (male, 17), and I'm pretty athletic. I was on an x-training machine one day and noticed the pulse monitor, the ones I use are also fairly accurate, my heart rate was 203 bpm. Is that normal? I went to the doctors and he did a 24 hour ECG on me with a Holter monitor, I phoned up but the nurse said the doctor wants to give me the results and won't be back from holiday until next week.
I've also suffered from chest tightness and chest pains, like a stabbing pain and then someone's just put a massive weight on my chest. It also comes with some breathing difficulties and exercise intolerance (laziness!!!). Any idea what it might be, if anything?
ps. IM NOT ASKING A QUESTION ABOUT MY WEIGHT, ITS ABOUT MY HEART!, jeez cant people read nowadays
I would take it easy until you here from the doctor the bp is a little high when you exercise if it was a emergency he would tell you right away
