I need a better guard stance?
I take MMA classes and I need a better guard stance.
Think traditional muay thai guard (palm facing forward and raise high) and bring down the hand to the chin level and that is the guard stance that I use right now. The problem is using this stance, as my coach pointed out, is that my right hand doesn't have enough surface area to protect my chin from a hook, because of the way my palm is facing forward.
He suggested the traditional boxing stance with the palm facing towards my chin to create more protected area. But I personally am not a fan of this guard as wearing the MMA gloves makes the finger side crash right into my face when the guard takes a hit. (palm forward made the back of the hand crash into my face, and it's a lot better feeling than the finger side.)
Is there a better solution to the guard than either one of these that you might know?
