CHOOSING THE RIGHT HANDBAG FOR YOUR BODY SHAPE
What shape are you in? Are you large, small, wide, narrow, angular, a little saggy or bulgy, boxy or broad.... and this is just the shape of your handbag not your body!
The choice of handbag will influence how a woman looks – and for a flattering fit, the same amount of attention should go on the choice of jeans as the choice of handbag. The size, the shape, the scale and the straps all play a big role in influencing perceptions. The right choice will play up your good bits and play down your least-liked bits!
Don’t let the latest designer trends or fashions tempt you. Just because tiny, elegant purses are on the catwalks everywhere or Victoria Beckham is spotted sporting a bright red oversized tote doesn’t mean it’s a must-have. Fight off temptation and bag yourself a better look with a little inside info from the experts
British fashion fiends, Trinny and Susannah may be outspoken but they know how to dress – and their mantra is “forget your size, discover your shape”. And when it comes to ladies handbags, the number one rule is that the shape of your handbag should NEVER match your body shape but it should complement it.
Size, scale, shape and proportion
Proportion and shape are vital. If you’re tall and willowy, don’t wear a small bag with long straps – rather add volume with something more rounded. If you’re tiny, you’ll need something in between the tiny clutch and oversized tote. Curvier types should wear handbags that have a structured, definite style such as a rectangular leather handbag. Balance and composition will dictate the overall look, and the general rule is that the more curvy and rounded your body, the more structured the handbag.
The right way to wear a handbag
The eye will go to the base of the handbag. Waist level is generally accepted as the most flattering position for a bag to sit. If it’s on the hips, attention will be drawn to the widest part of your body which will make you look heavier. If you don’t want to look top heavy, avoid wearing a bag under the arm or one with short straps. Conversely, if you’re ‘busting’ to show off your assets, then a handbag with short handles will focus attention chest-high.
Here’s a quick guide to the do’s and don’ts of handbag selection:
Long and lean
Find the balance with a larger, unstructured handbag that has loads of detailing (studs, metal, fringers, cut-outs, tassles etc).
Short
An elegant over-the-shoulder or across-the-body handbag will elongate your size, but avoid wide bags. Long straps will create long, lean lines but choose simple designs without much detailing.
Large, with wide waist, large hips
Wearing a small bag will only emphasise your shape. Choose a fairly large structured bag which provides definition and tailoring and that adds volume to the upper section, such as a leather shoulder bag.
Draw attention away from the waist by wearing a handbag under your arm.
Broad shoulders with ample bust
Try not to wear a clutch purse under your arm or a short-handled handbag. You need a handbags that emphasises length, so go for something with a long, thin strap that sits at the waist – or hold a purse or wallet in your hand.
After all that – whatever your size and shape, choose your handbag as carefully as you choose your outfit. It’s an instant style update
Do i need bag gloves when punching a leather bag?
Is a leather bag worth the extra $30 opposed to a canvas type bag? What are the differences?
the difference between punching bags is that the good once are heavier and so its harder to punch them and swing them which means better results at the end of the training session... but if you're rookie both bags are okay.and wearing gloves when punching make it harder, and so you have a better strength but again if you're a rookie it doesn't matter.
