How To Throw A Summer Party
Summer time is the party season in many countries, especially those that enjoy hot weather. Hosting a party for your friends and colleagues is a great idea if done right, so what would make for a great summer party?
Themes
One fantastic idea is to throw a party with a theme. The hot weather lends itself very nicely to several different ones. You could give your party a Hawaiian twist by hosting a luau.
The men can wear Bermuda shorts and shirts with flip flops (or go barefoot) while the ladies could go all the way with grass skirts and coconut bikini tops!
Serve typical Hawaiian drinks and food such as piña colada’s, Mai Tai’s, Blue Hawaii’s, Chicken Adobo, chicken or beef teriyaki and banana bread.
Soft drinks could include Hawaiian Punch or even Minute Maid Lemonade.
Decorate your venue with inflatable palm trees, even create a beach by pouring some sand out in a suitable location!
Alternatively, you could throw an All-American Barbeque. Dress code is strictly casual – the focus is on the food and drink.
Hot dogs, chilli dogs, burgers, cheeseburgers, steak – all cooked on the grill and washed down with good quality beer, root beer or Dr Pepper. Decorate your garden, yard or other venue in red, white and blue, crank up the music and get it onUSAstyle!
A twist on this idea is an Australian BBQ – instead of hot dogs, throw some shrimp on the barbie instead! Change the music for a bit of INXS, change the flags and decorate with some surf boards and bikini-clad women. Job done!
As it’s summer and the sun is out keeping cool is a priority so you could think about hosting a pool party. If you’re not lucky enough to have your own pool then find a friend with a large garden and hire a pool for the day.
There are some very nice swimming pools available to hire if you have the room, ideal for dipping into on a hot day before returning to mingle with your guests. Serve up refreshing drinks of the alcoholic and non-alcoholic variety and instead of wasting time and energy cooking, just put out a buffet of salads, chips and dips for people to eat.
Lacking in a space large enough, just fill your garden with paddling pools and use your imagination! Either way, you’ll have the water to keep cool. And, of course, you can start a water fight when the drinks are flowing and the sun is baking!
The important thing to remember is that your party should be fun for all involved, so if it’s adults only tailor your party to that and if kids are involved don’t forget to include some fun things for them to do too.
And remember – plenty of cold drinks, ice and sun cream to keep the heat and sunburn at bay. It’s no use having a great party and waking up the next day dehydrated, burned and regretting the whole thing!
