Boxing!! Can I use these gloves to hit the heavy bag?!?!?
I bought a heavy bag last night with some fingerless pink evergel hand wraps and tried to punch with my hand in these and wrapped and it hit! And also the bones in the middle of my fingers(top knuckles??) are all messed up and skin in broken. Will these gloves help:
They are just so cute! If not, please tell me what you suggest!!
I dont think that website worked, they are called:
EVERLAST PRO STYLE TRAINING GLOVES $19.99 at Academy.
I will use these for an hour a day almost everyday.
Cupid,
This is the answer I gave to a similar question not long ago but it still may offer some insight; take from it what you will:
"You should have a good pair of Hand-wraps. The importance of wrapping your hands well can can not be overstated. I have been involved with boxing/martial arts over 30 years and I like most people still get a sore hands even through the best of my efforts. Even though I am "old school" in most regards the days of slip-on 7-10 oz. bag gloves are over, they may have been good enough for Dempsey, Robinson, Louis, etc. etc. but most modern boxers use Bag/Training Gloves.
Training Gloves depends somewhat on your size if your are over 160 lbs. use 16 oz. gloves not less than 14 oz unless you are less you are under 130 lbs.. As with most sporting equipment buy the best Gloves you can afford. Everlast makes good training gloves from synthetic leather to leather. Ringside has an excellent array of gloves; I personally use their Ultimate Bag Glove now; it has longer cuffs and supports the wrist well and come in different hand sizes which is important. A glove that is too large or loose fitting is worse than a slightly tight glove as with hand-wraps you want to keep the bones of your hand tight and secure. Also buy long hand-wraps 170-180" and learn the proper way to wrap them. If your hands feel good you will hit the bag harder and with better technique."
Cupid, Yes you do need training gloves and the ones on the website are fine. I personally do not like the feel of the evergel type gloves I do not feel the same hand protection as I get from wrapping my own hands but I have been wrapping my own hands the same way for a long time. If you like the evergels extra protection over the knuckles as opposed to hand-wraps I would suggest that you take a small " junior length" pair of hand-wraps and wrap your wrist for extra support. The evergel type gloves lack severely in wrist support; not to be sexest but everyone needs wrist support, females more so than males. Just put the loop over your thumb and wrap from the base of the knuckles behind the gel pad around your wrist " to about 3" down your forearm several times. Good-luck.
